To complement and support academic formation, the Senior High School (SHS) will continue to offer non-academic programs adapted to our online context. These formation programs are meant to develop the students’ spiritual, social, and character development. Non-academic formation includes the following:

It is a reminder that during this time of pandemic that when we teach, we begin with finding out the context of our students. It means being concerned first and foremost that students have their basic needs in order to study, that they are safe in their homes and communities, that they have been connecting with friends, that they have been coping with the current situation in a hopeful way before we proceed with the actual teaching.

“Maslow before Bloom” reminds us that we are concerned not only about our students’ minds but also our students’ values and future choices. Our commitment is to form “the whole person” of our students.

In the end, we form students according to our stated formation “outcomes” -- the 5 Cs: Christ-centeredness, competence, conscience, compassion, and commitment.

Formation in the Senior High School ought to “happen” in every subject, course, office, or program. This means that academics is formative too! But just as our different subject teachers are champions in their respective fields -- resident experts, if you will, of particular disciplines -- our school also needs people who will champion character formation, discipline, wellness, spiritual formation, and social awareness. Students’ development in these areas cannot be left to chance. This is what we hope we can contribute to our school in the area of non-academic formation.

The Homeroom Program

The SHS Homeroom Program aims to provide students with guidance and formation in their overall character development through the personal care of the Class Moderator, regular homeroom check-ins, weekly formation sessions on special topics, and other class activities that nurture class community-building and school spirit. These activities will hopefully foster among students a sense of belonging in their class and within the school community.

To help students prepare for daily academic work, basic routines will be implemented and supervised by the Class Moderator daily. While the routines may come in different formats depending on the day, they are meant to form a structure to help students start the day and dispose themselves for academic work.

Classes will have weekly Formation Sessions every Friday from 9:00 to 10:00 AM. The formation sessions may be synchronous or asynchronous and will include topics to be handled by the Class Moderator, the Guidance and Counseling team, and the Campus Ministers for their various programs.

Feedback on Student Conduct

Throughout the semester, students may be given feedback by their Class Moderator and teachers about their behavior online as needed, especially in relation to the areas of self-management, online behavior, respect towards others, and academic integrity. The feedback may be coursed through email or through a PTC.

Student Attendance in an Online Environment

The SHS will provide structures so that students can signify their attendance during synchronous and asynchronous sessions. While, in a face-to-face class, attendance means being present physically in school or in class, in an online set-up, ‘attendance’ will refer to students’ being present during synchronous sessions and being available and engaged in studying during asynchronous sessions.

The Code of Decorum and Administrative Rules

The Code of Decorum and Administrative Rules outlines the definition of sexual harassment, other forms of sexual misconduct, and inappropriate behavior; imposable sanctions for the different types of infractions; grievance procedures; and modes of intervention and assistance. It covers both students and employees of the University. The CODI was released on 29 August 2020.

This document supersedes the Anti-Sexual Harassment Policy of the University.

The Student Handbook serves to orient the Ateneo de Manila Senior High School students and their parents about the organization, programs, and policies of the school. As a codification of the school’s policies, rules, and regulations it assists in maintaining order in the school.

Office of the Strand Coordinators

Holistic formation is the heart of ASHS mission. One of the offices that ensure that the school provides holistic formation is the Office of Strand Coordinators. Each strand is supervised by a Strand Coordinator (StraC) who is under the supervision of the APNAF.

The StraC coordinates the Formation Team. A Formation Team, which also includes the Class Moderator, and Guidance Counselor, takes care of the class’ and individual student’s formation needs. Aside from coordinating the Formation Team of each class, the StraC supervises and assists Class Moderators, promotes and implements the SHS Code of Discipline, and implements the Homeroom Program.

Guidance and Counseling Program

Also known as the "ASHS Guidance Hub", the ASHS Guidance and Counseling Program guides to attain success in school by maximizing students' potentials through the various Guidance and Counseling Services. The Counseling Team is composed of Counselors who are trained in the areas of mental health, wellness, career counseling, and psychological well-being.

Grade 11 Guidance Formation Sessions GFS 1: Socio-Emotional Learning

The COVID-19 pandemic had changed life’s landscape for the past few months. Every aspect of life has been altered from what was once the "usual" (interactive) to the “new normal” social distancing). To ensure safety while learning, ASHS turn to online learning. This formation session aims to evaluate how the COVID-19 pandemic impacted students' socio-emotional and self-management skills.

Grade 12 Guidance Formation Sessions GFS 1: Admission Possible

Students may feel “disconnected” from their own skills, talents, achievements and accomplishments because of perceived weaknesses. They might also be feeling “disconnected” from their life goals because of the uncertainties of life amidst COVID-19. This formation session aims to help students gain realistic self-knowledge through self validation of one’s own skills, talents, achievements, and accomplishments. Likewise, this helps them be empowered and inspired to continue making progress especially in the areas of their interests and skills in preparation for their college life.

GFS 2: Admission Possible Reloaded

Despite the anxiety that some students might feel about their local college applications , a significant number of students are still interested in foreign application even in the midst of the COVID-19 global pandemic situation . A continuation of the first session, this formation session no t only explains the college applications process of the ADMU Admissions including information on the Financial Aid Application but also equips them with the necessary information on the use of the Common Application as one of the systems used for applying to foreign schools.

GFS 3: Turning Challenges into Successes

As the first quarter comes to an end, students are highly stressed from accomplishing a number of academic requirements, as well as added pressures coming from admissions applications. Aside from juggling all of these things, they are still expected to help out around their homes (i.e. household chores, family-owned businesses etc.). This formation session is designed to empower the students to reflect on their current experiences, assess the sources of their stressors, and apply different stress management techniques to manage themselves very well.

Testing and Research Office

The Testing and Research Office ( TRO) is the assessment and study arm of the ASHS.

The TRO shares and supports the vision and mission of the school of molding young men into future leaders who are Christ-centered, competent, with a well formed conscience and compassionate commitment. As the school’s assessment and study arm, the TRO supports the Ateneo High School Senior Guidance Department through guidance test administration (intelligence, aptitude, personality and attitudinal testing), scoring and interpretation for students in all year level s .

A S pace for an H our of S olace ( ASHS ) is a dedicated sacred space for the Ateneo Senior High School Community (Faculty, Staff & Custodians). Through this online site, we hope to continue nourishing each other’s prayer life amidst the many changes and challenges we face each day, especially during these trying times.

As we enter A S pace for an H our of S olace, may we find a quiet time to stop, pause, breathe and pray.

ASHS seeks to provide gentle spiritual accompaniment through the weekly guided prayer meditation and a monthly group spiritual conversation.

ASHS is a joint ministry collaboration of the Ateneo Senior High School Campus Ministry Office and the Center for Ignatian Spirituality and is being offered this school year 2020-2021.
